Facebook has blocked Russian state media from running ads or monetizing on its platform anywhere in the world as Russia’s invasion of neighboring Ukraine reached the streets of Kyiv, a Reuters report says.
Meta, the parent company of social media giant Facebook said on Friday.
“We are now prohibiting Russian state media from running ads or monetizing on our platform anywhere in the world,” Meta’s security policy head Nathaniel Gleicher said on Twitter.

He further said, “We also continue to apply labels to additional Russian state media and these changes have already begun rolling out and will continue into the weekend.”
Gleicher’s statement came few hours after Russia’s media regulator said it was limiting access to Facebook, bringing accusation of censorship and violating the rights of Russian citizens against Facebook.
Facebook also released a special feature in Ukraine on Wednesday that enables people to lock their profiles for enhanced security. The tech giant released the same feature using a tool in Afghanistan last year.
