Truth Social, the fledgling social media network developed by former President Donald Trump’s new media company, is now available on the iOS App Store in the United States. According to the Reuters report, the app was launched prior to Presidents Day on Monday amid much enthusiasm of a section of people.
The app, which bills itself as “free from political discrimination”, appears to be designed after Trump’s previous favourite social media network Twitter straightly copying some of its features and design. The app allows users to build custom profiles, create posts, and follow others. Creating new post has been termed here as ‘Truth’ and ‘Re-Truth’ instead of tweet and retweet options of Twitter.
The former president was banned from a number of social platforms including Twitter in early 2021 after his alleged incitement of violence in the US Capitol riot.
However, users are complaining facing trouble signing up to Truth Social. The troubles include — a buggy registration process, sign-up glitches, long waitlists etc.
According to CNET, some users who signed up through the site have been shown vague Something went wrong error messages, while others are reportedly being told that they have been put on a waitlist due to massive demand.
A reporter with the Washington Post said he did not receive verification email after trying to sign up to the app. In addition, when the Techogram team tried to access to the site, it was showing Access Denied.
The Truth Social App has reportedly been in beta version since December with around 500 users. Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) led by former Representative Devin Nunes, is developing the platform.
On early Sunday, in an interview with Fox News Nunes said, “I hope the service will be fully operational by the end of March this year.”
Jessie Daniels, Faculty Associate at the Harvard Berkman Klein Center and Professor of Sociology at Hunter College, said, “Truth Social may struggle to dominate the political discourse like Twitter is doing currently. While some 300 million users of Twitter are varied, Truth Social may attract mostly like-minded users.”
Downloads and Ratings of Truth Social
One can download the app directly from iOS App store or vising the website Truthsocial.com., which will redirect the visitor to App Store. According to Apple App Store, the 12.4MB app has so far been rated 4.1 out of 5 by over 14,100 users till writing this report.
In the review section, users shared their first impressions experiences with the app. A user giving the app 5 stars said, “In these few years, I was able to see why the main media lie to us. I have never thought one day that I have no place to read true news. Now, President Trump brings us this channel.”
One the other hand, another user wrote, “Good idea, poorly implemented” adding “I would like to join but I am sick to death of apps gathering information they don’t need. And then it comes back to cause nothing but something bad. ”
So, it’s completely your decision whether to download Truth Social or save your RAM and battery by ignoring it.
According to sources at Truth Social website, the app will soon be released on Google Play Store. But we don’t know how long TMTG will take to make the Android version available and how smooth and responsive the app will be on android devices. So the Android users will have to wait for the app to be launched on this platform to compare it with Twitter, Facebook and other social media platforms. However, it is still uncertain when the app will be available outside the US.
